2026 - Perspective is Everything
→ You are here ←
I love the maps especially at huge malls and state parks with the star ⭐️ saying, “you are here”
Which doesn't mean much if you are directionally challenged. I was hiking with my Gen Z daughters and we got a little lost as we walked on ground that has been around for thousands of years. But we found our way back to the car as we avoided pointing fingers and panicking. We looked for the green markers. Interestingly some markers were obvious and others were green dots on the rocks. After all, a state park with red rocks and boulders embedded with quartz cannot have poles drilled into it so they painted green dots.
The stars and sky are there for us only because the earth gives us the ground of stability.
Nature will give you perspective.
Time will give you perspective.
Death will give you perspective.
Remember when…
••Remember y2k and the fear that the world would halt at 11:59 pm on Dec 31 1999?
••Remember the early days of 2000 and the newness of VCs and start-ups and the web?
••Remember the first cell phone, the blackberry and then the first iPhone that mainstreamed the app store. We went from using phones as a communication device to a fully fledged e-commerce engine.
••Remember that many of us have been on LinkedIn for 20 years and on Facebook for nearly 18 years
••Joined and left other platforms…
••Looked at Snapchat, then got on to Insta.
••Got on YouTube two decades ago for entertainment and we also use it for widespread education.
Innovation stems from deep curiosity and creativity. It's is forged through the, “what if” mind that is wondering about small, trivial, dangerous, big, essential questions.
AI is a vast space that cannot easily be defined, described or defied. It is in active collaboration with humans.
It is everything, everywhere, all at once.
The more we resist, the less we learn, the less we learn, the harder it will become to adapt, the less likely it becomes to survive.
Technology that has enjoyed tremendous growth and profitability especially over the last 30 years is starting to plateau as it bumps into the age-old barriers of natural resources, inflated demand and accesibility.
But the BIG questions will always start with
••Why?
••What?
••How?
••When?
••Where?
••and my favorite: With Whom?
Create a sunscreen against fear
Fear of incoming
Fear of outgoing
Fear of irrelevance
Fear of insignificance
Fear of inclusion and acceptance
These fears are deep and go against the natural order of life.
If there is one thing 2025 taught me, it is to remember that nothing is preordained, that above all, life = mystery.
There are second chances, third chances, fourth, fifth and on and on.
Life is a potent force, an eternal battery but it requires us to believe in our abilities and to stay plugged in.
Wishing you all a peaceful and prosperous 2026.
